Ways to Give PDF Print

Gifts made directly to the Peace Education Fund are tax-deductible and provide funding for our media, outreach, and education activities. Those activities include public education on peace, disarmament and human rights issues. We also mount sustained and effective media campaigns addressing those same issues. We act as a foreign policy resource for the media, journalists, citizens’ organizations and policymakers. We reach the public directly through our paid media campaigns.

Below you will find a variety of ways to give to the Peace Education Fund. Making an outright gift of cash, securities or real estate to the Peace Education Fund may be the best way to fulfill your charitable and financial objectives. Outright gifts achieve a double tax benefit: you receive an income tax reduction for the full value of your gift and the donated asset is removed from your estate for estate tax purposes. To inquire about making a tax-deductible gift, phone (800) 949-9020 x602, or email us here.

A Will to Disarm: Our Future Without Fear Legacy Circle

Making a will is not only one of the most important ways to ensure that your personal wishes are honored – it can also be a powerful way to say NO to nuclear weapons, arms sales and war.
We appreciate that many of our friends, after ensuring that personal and family needs are met, are willing to give part of their estates to ensure that the cause of peace continues far into the future. One need not be rich. Bequests large and small speak powerfully to future generations about who you are and the future you believe in. Gifts of Stock or Securities

Other than cash, securities (e.g. stock shares, mutual fund shares, bonds) are a popular asset for funding charitable gifts. Publicly traded securities are usually very marketable, have a clear value, and are easily transferred.

You may have an opportunity to avoid capital gain tax that would be applied to the appreciation when the securities are sold. As with most charitable gifts, you may also earn an income tax charitable deduction for the full market value of the securities. With the tax savings, the “cost” of your gift to the Peace Education Fund may be much less than the actual value of the gift made – and preferable to a gift of cash. In a sense, the IRS pays for a portion of your gift!

Interest-Free Loan

An interest-free loan supports the programs of the Peace Education Fund without permanently giving away assets that you may need in the future. Though you do not receive a charitable deduction since you may call back your loan, your interest-free loan allows you avoid paying income taxes on income producing assets or support the Peace Education Fund before the income is subject to taxes. Your loan will be invested according to the Peace Education Fund’s socially responsible investment guidelines. Income from the loan is used for general program support. To make a permanent and tax-deductible gift to Peace Education Fund in the future, you are welcome to forgive all or part of your loan either during your lifetime or at your death.

Giving through your Retirement Plan – The Charitable IRA

Naming the Peace Education Fund as the beneficiary of all or part of what remains of your retirement plan avoids both estate and income taxes while allowing you to make a much larger contribution than you may have ever thought possible toward establishing a permanent peace legacy. If you are over age 59, you may also find it advantageous to make an annual charitable gift from your retirement plan to receive a tax-deduction and save yourself and your heirs costly income and estate taxes. This may be especially attractive if you’re over 70 and are required by law to begin withdrawing these retirement funds.

Gifts of Real Estate

There are many ways to make a gift of real estate to the Peace Education Fund both outright and with a retained life estate. If you are considering a gift of real estate, email us here. We would be glad to explore with you how such a gift might help you combine your charitable and financial objectives.
